Australian batsman Rob Quiney agrees a deal to become an overseas player for Essex.

Essex have completed a deal to sign Australian Rob Quiney as an overseas player for the forthcoming season.

The 30-year-old has represented Australia at Test level on two occasions and is expected to be in contention for a spot in this summer's Ashes squad.

Quiney told the club's official website: "I am delighted to have signed a contract to play for Essex this summer.

"I am very excited about the plans for Essex this season and I look forward to helping our drive to securing silverware in 2013."

The left-hander's initial deal will last until mid-August.
