Kevin Pietersen seemingly announces retirement from cricket

Kevin Pietersen has seemingly announced his retirement from professional cricket.

The former England batsman, who recently parted company with Pakistan Super League team Quetta Gladiators, hinted that his playing days are over in a Twitter post.

"BOOTS UP! Thank you," Pietersen's tweet read.

The South African-born cricketer previously confirmed that Quetta Gladiators' current Super League campaign would be his last tournament abroad, but he opted not to complete the full season.

The Pakistani outfit responded to the news of Pietersen's apparent retirement by wishing him well on social media.

"You will be missed Kevin Pietersen," the team tweeted. "Great career! Thank you for everything. Wish you could stayed with us till PSL final but we respect your decision."

Pietersen has played white-ball cricket around the world since being exiled from the England setup in 2014, with stints in India, the Carribbean, Australia and South Africa, as well as Pakistan.
