Tim Phillips calls time on cricket career

Tim Phillips has announced his retirement following a 16-year stint with Essex.

The spin-bowler, who made his debut for the Chelmsford-based outfit back in 1999, has called time on a career that saw him take 132 first-class wickets.

"I have enjoyed my career and the friendships I have made during my 16 years representing Essex. I would like to take this opportunity to wish the club all the best for the future," he told the club's official website.

Meanwhile, Essex head coach Paul Grayson added: "Tim has been a very loyal member of our squad over the years, and was a key part of our successful one-day teams. I would like to thank him for all his years of service, and wish him the best for the future."

Phillips scored 2,779 runs in all formats of the game.
