ICC wants worldwide lifetime ban for Danish Kaneria

ICC calls for Kaneria worldwide ban

The International Cricket Council's board has agreed with all of the cricket nations that shamed Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria should be banned from worldwide cricket.

The 31-year-old was handed a lifetime ban from competing in England after he was found guilty on two charges by the ECB for encouraging former Essex bowler Mervyn Westfield to deliberately concede 60 runs in a match in 2009.

A statement read: "The ICC board unanimously acknowledged and agreed that the ICC and every full, associate and affiliate member should recognise and respect the sanctions imposed by the ECB's disciplinary panel on those players, including by enforcing and giving effect to them within their own jurisdictions to the fullest extent permitted by law."

Meanwhile, Mervyn Westfield was banned for five years.
