Adam Scott has admitted that his poor start to the Australian Open matters little following the tragic passing of compatriot Phil Hughes.
The 34-year-old, who carded a round of three-over-par in Sydney this morning, was out on the course when news of Hughes's death first emerged.
Speaking to reporters following the end of day one, Scott put matters into perspective, saying: "It is sad, it's tragic. It's such an unlucky thing to happen. You've just got to think of his family and all his team mates, they must be hurting right now.
"I've had tons of tough days on the course, nothing on the course matters when things like that happen. It's just the way life is, unfortunately, it's not fair."
The world of cricket has this morning mourned the death of Hughes, who passed away at the age of 25.
