Kolkata comfortably win IPL opener

The new Indian Premier League season has started with a 41-run win for Kolkata Knight Riders over Mumbai Indians in Abu Dhabi.

Kolkata put themselves into bat first and posted a score of 163-5 before Mumbai responded with 122-7.

Jacques Kallis top scored for the Knight Riders with a mighty knock of 72 off 46 balls, while Manish Pandey chipped in with an impressive 64.

However, Suryakumar Yadav (13) was the only other Kolkata batsman to make it into double figures.

The irrepressible Lasith Malinga did most of the damage with the ball for Mumbai, ending with figures of 4-23.

Aditya Tare (24) and Ambati Rayudu (48) helped Mumbai make a strong start in reply, while captain Rohit Sharma chipped in with 27.

However, Sunil Narine ripped through the middle order, finishing with 4-20 from his four overs to give Kolkata a comfortable victory.
