Joseph Denly starred with the bat as he finished just two short of a century as the home side ended their innings on 155-2.
Only Eoin Morgan and Dawid Malan were dismissed for the Panthers as Ryan Higgins posted a score of 44.
Somerset finished on 152-4 after their allotted innings with Craig Kieswetter running in 74.
