India seal dominant win over South Africa in Mohali

India have won the first Test match against South Africa by 108 runs in Mohali.

India have produced a dominant bowling performance to record a 108-run win over South Africa in the first Test match in Mohali.

India began the day on 125-2, which gave them a lead of 142, but after Cheteshwar Pujara departed for 77 with the score on 164-4, the lower order collapsed as South Africa bowled their hosts out for 200, with Simon Harmer and Imran Tahir picking up four wickets apiece.

That left South Africa chasing a target of 218, but they never looked like reaching that total as three wickets fell with just 10 runs on the board.

Dean Elgar offered some resistance, lasting 47 balls before losing his wicket for 16, while Stiaan van Zyl made a valiant 36 during a period where India were attempting to turn the screw.

Once he became the eighth wicket to fall with South Africa still requiring another 116, it was only a matter of time before India sealed the win, and the triumph was confirmed in fitting style as Ravindra Jadeja completed a five-wicket haul by trapping Tahir in front of his stumps.

The second Test of the fourth-match series begins next Saturday in Bangalore.
