India lead South Africa by 320 runs at close of day three of first Test

India lead South Africa by 320 runs after closing day three of the first Test on 284-2.

India have extended their lead over South Africa to 320 after closing day three of the first Test in Johannesburg on 284-2.

The tourists have had a strong day at the crease after bowling the Proteas all out for 244, with Shikhar Dhawan (15) and Murali Vijay (39) opening the batting.

The hosts drew blood 23 runs into India's innings by dismissing Dhawan, and Vijay later followed his teammate after taking 39 runs from 94 balls.

A century for Cheteshwar Pujara ensured that India remained on top of the contest, while Virat Kohli surpassed a Test half-century to frustrate the South African bowlers.

Pujara (135) and Kohli (77) will resume at the crease tomorrow.
