Dhawan pummels Australia in Mohali

India batsman Shikhar Dhawan recorded a remarkable 185 on his Test debut as India battered Australia's bowling attack in Mohali.

After Australia had posted 408 just before lunch, Dhawan attacked Australia at will to record the fastest debut century in Test match history, reaching three figures in 85 balls.

The left-hander's onslaught continued after tea, as he and Murali Vijay remained untroubled at the crease to take their partnership past 200.

Dhawan rocketed past the 150-mark and he failed to relent as play neared a close, eventually reaching stumps on 185, with Vijay unbeaten on 83, as India posted a score of 283-0 at the end of day three.

Australia's Mitchell Starc had earlier missed out on a maiden Test century after he was dismissed for 99.
