Shikhar Dhawan to miss rest of Sri Lanka series with hand injury

Dhawan to miss rest of Sri Lanka series

India opener Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the rest of the series against Sri Lanka after injuring his hand.

A 63-run defeat to the hosts in the first Test at the weekend has put India on the back foot in the three-match series, and they will be forced to attempt a comeback without Dhawan, who has suffered a hairline fracture to his right hand after being struck in Galle.

The 29-year-old scored a century in the first innings of the match, but he will be out of action for up to six weeks with the injury.

"He underwent tests that confirmed a hairline fracture in his hand," a statement from the team confirmed. "He would require four to six weeks to recover from the injury."

Murali Vijay is likely to replace Dhawan at the top of the order after missing the first Test with a hamstring injury.
