Ravindra Jadeja fined over James Anderson incident

Ravinda Jadeja receives a fine of 50% of his match fee after being found guilty of a Level 1 breach of conduct.

India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been fined 50% of his match fee after being found guilty of a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct.

The punishment comes as a result of a confrontation with England fast bowler James Anderson during the first Test at Trent Bridge earlier this month.

Jadeja had originally been charged under a Level 2 offence in response to India charging Anderson with a Level 3 offence, but the 25-year-old was found not guilty of the original charge against him.

"Under Article 6.1 of the Code, I had to be comfortably satisfied that the offence had occurred in order to find Mr Jadeja guilty of an offence under Article 2.2.11," match referee David Boon said in a statement.

"While I was in no doubt that confrontation did occur, and that such conduct was not in the spirit of the game and should not have taken place, I was not comfortably satisfied that this was a level 2 offence. Therefore, in exercising my discretion under Article 7.6.5 of the Code and having heard all the evidence, I was comfortably satisfied that Mr Jadeja had committed a level 1 offence under Article 2.1.8 of the Code."

The incident is reported to have taken place as the two players left the field of play for lunch on the second day of the Incestec Test, with India claiming that Anderson abused and pushed Jadeja, while England allege that Jadeja approached his English opponent in a threatening manner.

If he is found guilty of the Level 3 offence, Anderson faces a ban of between two and four Tests, or four and eight ODIs.
