Ryan ten Doeschate bemoans absentees in Surrey defeat

Ryan ten Doeschate believes that Essex's defeat to Surrey in the T20 Blast was partly down to the number of key players that they were missing.

Ryan ten Doeschate has admitted that Essex Eagles missed a number of key players during their T20 Blast defeat to Surrey yesterday afternoon.

The Eagles lost by 44 runs to slip to their second loss in as many days.

Speaking afterwards, captain Ten Doeschate told reporters: "Remember, we were missing several key players - Mark Pettini, Jesse Ryder and Tom Westley were all on the injured list and Ravi Bopara was unavailable because of his commitments in India.

"We had to go into the game with several young players as a result. It was a big learning curve for them but hopefully, they will have benefited from the experience."

Next up for Essex is a trip to Glamorgan on Friday evening.
