Chennai Super Kings go joint top with win over Kolkata Knight Riders

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja takes 4-12 to inspire Chennai Super Kings to a 34-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders which takes them joint top of the IPL.

Ravindra Jadeja took a career-best 4-12 to help Chennai Super Kings to a 34-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders which takes them joint top of the IPL.

The Indian all-rounder ripped through the Kolkata middle order after both Jacques Kallis and Gautam Gambhir had fallen early in their chase of 149.

In a match that was reduced to 17 overs per side due to rain, Jadeja had earlier contributed a quickfire 17 to Chennai's total of 148-3, with their star-studded batting lineup of Dwayne Smith, MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina all chipping in to support Brendon McCullum's 56.

In contrast, Kolkata had only two reach double figures, with opener Robin Uthappa holding the innings together with 47 before edging behind to Dhoni to become Jadeja's second victim.

The left-arm spinner also accounted for Manish Pandey, Suryakumar Yadav and Shakib Al Hasan as the Knight Riders slumped to 91-7, and only a bludgeoning 41 from Yusef Pathan took them past 100.

They eventually finished on 114-9 as Chennai secured two points which takes their tally for the tournament to 10, level with the Kings XI Punjab, who have won all of their five games so far.
