Trott out cheaply on Bears return

Jonathan Trott's first innings since returning to competitive cricket ended with the England batsman scoring just one in Birmingham Bears' comfortable victory over the Northants Steelbacks at Edgbaston.

The 33-year-old, who travelled home midway through last winter's Ashes series in Australia with a "stress-related illness", came in with the hosts 95-1 and chasing a meagre total for 134 to win, thanks to an electric partnership between Varun Chopra and William Porterfield.

However, the South African-born player could only manage a single before picking out Kyle Coetzer off the bowling of Mohammed Azharullah.

His wicket did little to deter Birmingham, who cruised to victory with four overs to spare.

Earlier Rikki Clarke's bowling proved difficult to score off in his four overs (1-8) and Chris Wright took three wickets as Northants struggled to post a difficult total.
