Latvia picks up its first gold medal of the European Games in Baku following a 2-1 win over Russia in the final of the beach volleyball event.

Beach volleyball duo Martins Plavins and Haralds Regza picked up Latvia's first gold medal of the European Games in Baku this evening.

The pair edged out Russia's Dmitry Barsouk and Yaroslav Koshkarev in the final by a 2-1 margin to get Latvia off the mark in Azerbaijan.

Earlier, Czech Republic's Premysl Kubala and Jan Hadrava edged out the Swiss team of Alexei Strasser and Gabriel Kissling to clinch the bronze.

It marked Latvia's second medal of the games, having won wrestling bronze earlier in the competition.
