USA 107-100 Spain - USA win gold medal

Team USA have won gold in the men's Olympic basketball this afternoon, beating Spain 107-100 in the final.

United States went into the tournament expecting to win gold given their star-studded squad, which included arguably two of the greatest players ever in LeBron James and Kobe Bryant.

However, the final was not straightforward for the Americans. They edged the first quarter 35-27, but Spain, silver medalists four years ago, bounced back to win the second 31-24, making it 59-58 to USA at half-time.

Nothing could separate the two sides in the third quarter as it finished 24-24, meaning that it was a one-point game going into the final quarter.

However, USA finally pulled clear in the last quarter, taking it 24-18 to win the match 107-100, securing the gold.
