James Harden: 'I feel I am the MVP'

Houston Rockets guard James Harden believes that he should win the NBA MVP award this year.

Houston Rockets guard James Harden has insisted that he feels as though he has done enough this season to earn the NBA MVP award.

The race for the MVP award this season has been highly competitive, with Harden, Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook, Anthony Davis and LeBron James all heavily involved in the conversation.

Harden has had to lead the Rockets without Dwight Howard for the majority of the season, and believes that this should play in his favour in voting.

"I feel as though I am the MVP. I think the MVP is the most valuable player to your team. Obviously you have to be winning and be one of the top teams in this league and we are," Harden said, according to NBA.com.

"I'm not taking credit away from anybody else in the league. But I've been consistent all year. I've just been doing the right things to put my team in situations to win, considering all of the different circumstances we've had to deal with."

The Rockets star insisted that he didn't want to take anything away from Curry who is regarded as the favourite for the award, but reiterated that he has continued to lead his team despite the injuries suffered around him.
