Golden State Warriors edge out Houston Rockets to extend lead

Warriors edge out Rockets to extend lead

The Golden State Warriors have extended their lead in the Western Conference finals with a 99-98 win over the Houston Rockets in game two at the Oracle Arena.

The Rockets made a strong start, but Andre Iguodala and Klay Thompson put the home side in control by the end of the opening quarter.

The Warriors built a 16-point lead as they continued to find the basket early in the second while defending strongly, but James Harden led a late surge from Houston just before half time, leaving the scores level at the break.

The two teams remained close throughout the third quarter, with the top seeds edging to a two-point advantage heading into the final 12 minutes.

Stephen Curry and Draymond Green ensured that the Warriors kept themselves narrowly ahead, leaving the Rockets to fall just short when Dwight Howard cut the gap to one with the final basket.

The teams meet again in Houston on Saturday.
