Steve Kerr: 'We won't promote Stephen Curry for MVP'

Kerr: 'No need for Curry campaign'

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has claimed that the franchise will not be making an effort to promote Stephen Curry as an MVP contender.

Curry is among the favourites to collect the award alongside the likes of James Harden, Russell Westbrook and four-time winner LeBron James, but Kerr insists that he will not be following the example of Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey, who has repeatedly called for Harden to be named MVP.

"I care. I'd like for Steph to win the MVP, and I think he deserves it," the Warriors coach told reporters.

"We're trying to win games. We've got a lot of work to do.

"So, if Daryl Morey wants to run his own one-man campaign for James Harden, he can do that. That's fine, but we're focused on other stuff."

Curry is averaging 23.8 points, 7.8 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game for the Western Conference leaders this season.
