The Charlotte Bobcats have announced that Brendan Haywood will miss at least 12 weeks with a stress fracture in his foot.
The center will undergo surgery next week to repair the damage.
The 33-year-old met with a foot specialist yesterday after suffering pain in his left ankle, and an MRI revealed the injury.
Haywood featured in 61 games for the Bobcats last season.
