Report: Brook Lopez nears Brooklyn Nets exit as he rejects contract

Report: Lopez opts out of Nets contract

Brooklyn Nets centre Brook Lopez will hit the free agents market this summer, according to reports.

The 27-year-old joined the Nets in 2008, and was named an NBA All-Star in 2013. His contract has run out, but he has the player option of extending it by a further year.

However, ESPN reports that Lopez has turned down the option, which would have earned him over £10.6m, and he is now set to leave the club.

The former Stanford star averaged 17.2 points in 72 games last season.
