Result: Pearson clinches Australia's first gold

Sally Pearson has become the first Australian competitor to claim a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships with victory in the women's 100m hurdles final.

The 24-year-old set a new Championship record of 12.28 seconds on her way to winning the first prize in Daegu.

American duo Danielle Carruthers and Dawn Harper took silver and bronze respectively, while Great Britain's Tiffany Porter finished in fourth place.

"I've always said anything can happen so you just have to learn from it and move forward. I'm proud with everything so I can't be too upset," Porter told Radio 5 Live after the race.

Porter was competing in her first world title final.
