Antyukh wins 400m hurdles gold

Natalya Antyukh held off a late challenge from Lashinda Demus to claim the gold medal from tonight's 400m hurdles finals at the London Olympics.

Both Antyukh and Demus got out of the blocks quickly and held a lead over the rest of the field with 100m of the race run.

As the pair headed into the home straight, 31-year-old Antyukh had opened up an advantage of three metres over Demus.

However, the American responded in the closing stages and almost closed the gap on her Russian counterpart, who eventually crossed the line first in a personal best 52.70s.

Demus produced a season-best time of 52.77s, while the bronze medal went to Zuzana Hejnova of the Czech Republic.
