Mo Farah becomes first male Briton to win Great North Run for 29 years

Farah wins Great North Run

Mo Farah became the first British man to win the Great North Run since 1985 this morning, with a personal-best time of one hour and one second.

The 31-year-old double Olympic gold medallist held off Kenya's Mike Kigen to win his first title in the Newcastle half marathon.

Farah, who finished second behind Kenenisa Bekele last year, becomes the first British man since Steve Kenyon 29 years ago to win the race.

In the women's race, Kenya edged out Britain as Mary Keitany equalled Paula Radcliffe's course record in finishing ahead of Gemma Steel.
