Rutherford leaps to World Challenge victory

Olympic long jump gold medallist Greg Rutherford won the IAAF Melbourne World Challenge with an 8.10m leap in the fourth round.

The jump was enough to beat the 8.01m of Australian Mitchell Watt, who picked up the silver medal in London.

"An 8.10m isn't anything massively special," said the 26-year-old from Milton Keynes.

"But we are in the early part of the year and waking up this morning I didn't expect to be able to jump that well so early."

Rutherford jumped 8.31m at last year's London Games to relegate favourite Watt to silver with 8.16m.
