Jemima Sumgong has become the first Kenyan winner of the Olympic women's marathon.

The 31-year-old won in two hours, 24 minutes and four seconds, with Eunice Kirwa of Bahrain taking silver and Ethiopia's Mare Dibaba winning bronze.

Sumgong, who won this year's London Marathon, also ended a run of three consecutive silvers in this event for Kenya.

Great Britain's Alyson Dixon came home in 28th place, while compatriot Sonia Samuels finished 30th.
