Elaine Thompson claims sprint double at Olympic Games

Jamaica's Elaine Thompson wins the women's 200m final to complete a sprint-double at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Jamaica's Elaine Thompson has completed the sprint-double at the Olympic Games after claiming victory in the women's 200m final.

Last weekend, Thompson earned her first gold medal in the 100m and she produced another excellent display as she edged out Dafne Schippers.

The pair powered ahead of the rest of the field before Thompson moved in front, and although Schippers battled on gamely, she was no match for her rival who won in 21.78s.

The Dutch sprinter finished second in 21.88s while USA's Tori Bowie claimed the bronze medal in a time of 22.15s.

Great Britain's Dina Asher-Smith produced her best performance of the Games from lane two to claim fifth spot in 22.31s, which is a season's best for the 20-year-old.
