Police launch Asafa Powell, Sherone Simpson investigation

Italian police have opened up an investigation against Jamaican sprinters Asafa Powell and Sherone Simpson over allegations of doping.

It was confirmed over the weekend that the pair have tested positive for the banned stimulant oxilofrine.

News of the investigation from the Italian authorities has come after they recently raided a hotel that the two athletes were staying in, which was located in Lignano Sabbiadoro. Unknown substances were found and have been sent for testing.

The role of their coach, Chris Xeureb, is also being scrutinised.
