Jamaican sprinter Sherone Simpson given doping ban

Jamaica's former Olympic 4x100m relay gold medallist Sherone Simpson is handed an 18-month ban for doping.

Jamaica's former Olympic 4x100m relay gold medallist Sherone Simpson has received an 18-month doping ban.

The 29-year-old tested positive for the stimulant oxilofrine at her country's national championships last summer.

Simpson's gold medal came at the 2004 Games, while she also won a silver medal in the same event at London 2012 and a silver medal in the 100m in 2008.

The news comes after Jamaican discus thrower Allison Randall was given a two-year ban for doping earlier on Tuesday.

Their fellow Jamaican Asafa Powell will learn his fate on Thursday after testing positive for the same banned substance as Simpson.
