Italy win gold in women's team event

Italy have defeated Belarus to win the gold medal in the women's archery team event at the European Games.

After establishing an early lead, the trio of Guendalina Sartori, Elena Tonetta and Natalia Valeeva were pegged back by their opponents before the third set was shared.

That left the score at 3-3 heading into the fourth, but despite opening with a score of seven, Italy took the fourth set 53-50 to run out 5-3 victors.

Their success earns Italy their second gold medal of the Games, while silver for Belarus takes their medal total up to 16 for the event.

Earlier on Thursday, Ukraine recorded a dramatic 5-4 triumph over the Russian Federation to win bronze.
