Philadelphia Eagles sign first-round pick Marcus Smith

The Philadelphia Eagles confirm that they have signed first-round Draft pick Marcus Smith to a long-term deal.

The Philadelphia Eagles have announced that they have signed first-round Draft pick Marcus Smith.

Chip Kelly's side selected the linebacker 26th overall out of the Louisville Cardinals and have now secured the 22-year-old to a long-term deal.

"It means everything," Smith told the club's official website. "I've been waiting on it for a long time, been wanting to sign my contract just to get everything over with. It just feels great to be an Eagle and have no worries and go on the field and do what I do best.

"When I put the pen to paper? The first person I think of is my mom. She did so many things for me and I just feel like I could go out and do something special for her."

Smith recorded 42 tackles and 14.5 sacks for the Cardinals in the 2013 season.
