Rex Ryan: 'Mark Sanchez hasn't won the quarterback competition'

Ryan: 'Sanchez hasn't won the competition'

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan has insisted that the quarterback competition at his side is still ongoing despite comments from Mark Sanchez.

Sanchez revealed on Thursday that he felt that he has won the job over rookie Geno Smith before he sustained a shoulder injury in the Jets' third pre-season game.

Ryan told reporters: "I never said he won the competition. That's his opinion.

"It's not about a company line. Apparently, if that's what he said then that's his opinion. Again there is that ongoing competition."

The Jets fell to 1-1 in their season following their 13-10 defeat to the New England Patriots.
