Gary Kubiak: 'CJ Anderson is our primary back ahead of training camp'

Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak announces that CJ Anderson will be the club's lead running back for the start of their training camp.

Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak has confirmed that CJ Anderson will start his side's training camp as their number one running back.

Montee Ball began the 2014 campaign as the AFC West team's primary back, but then sustained a season-ending groin injury, which allowed Anderson to assume the lead role.

The 24-year-old shone in his appearances for the Broncos as he ran for over 150 yards in back-to-back matches, and Kubiak has revealed that the back will retain his role ahead of the 2015 season.

"We're right where we're at. Obviously CJ, that's in a lot of ways his spot to hang on to," Kubiak told reporters.

"I think that Montee has had a great off-season. I think Ronnie [Hillman] has had a really good off-season. I think it's very competitive. You never know about the backs until you put the pads on. I think CJ has worked extremely hard.

"Coming off of last year he deserves that opportunity and I think he's getting ready for that opportunity. But he knows he's being pushed very hard."

Anderson recorded 849 rushing yards and eight touchdowns for the Broncos last season.
