Manchester United team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Rochdale

Strong>Sports Mole rounds up Manchester United's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Wednesday's EFL Cup third-round clash with Rochdale.

Manchester United meet Rochdale at Old Trafford in the EFL Cup third round looking to move on from Sunday's loss to West Ham United.

The 2-0 defeat at the London Stadium has cast fresh questions over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his players, who have mustered just five wins from their last 16 games.

However, they will consider this cup competition, which they won in 2017, to serve as a potential silver lining to what promises to be a difficult league campaign.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest injury and suspension news for United ahead of the match at the London Stadium.

Marcus Rashford

Status: Out
Type of injury: Groin
Possible return date: Unknown

Rashford never looked right against West Ham, seemingly lacking fitness and bite, and it was therefore no surprise to see him pull up with a groin problem. He is due for scans this week, but Solskjaer has already declared that the 21-year-old would be out 'for a while'.

Mason Greenwood

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Virus
Possible return date: September 25 (vs. Rochdale)

The 17-year-old, having scored his first senior goal against Astana, missed the defeat in East London due to a bout of tonsilitis, but should recover in time for Wednesday's game at Old Trafford.

Luke Shaw

Status: Out
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: September 30 (vs. Arsenal)

The Englishman was ruled out for about a month with a thigh injury sustained against Crystal Palace in August, and is not expected back until next week at the earliest.

Anthony Martial

Status: Out
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: September 30 (vs. Arsenal)

Solskjaer revealed ahead of the West Ham game that Martial had not returned to training after also picking up a thigh problem ahead of the international break, making his involvement in the game on Wednesday essentially impossible, with the earliest possible return being against Arsenal in a week.

Eric Bailly

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

The Ivorian continues to nurse a knee ligament problem picked up over pre-season. While he is said to be ahead of schedule, the earliest Bailly will return looks likely to be November.

Paul Pogba

Status: Out
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: September 30 (vs. Arsenal)

Much like Martial, Pogba's injury ahead of the international break continues to keep him on the sidelines, with the Frenchman yet to resume training with the first team. While Rochdale comes too soon, United supporters will hope that the French duo can recover in time for the meeting with Arsenal.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Fosu-Mensah has been videoed going through various gym exercises at Carrington, but the Dutchman remains some way off first team action after undergoing surgery on ligament damage whilst on loan at Fulham last season.

MANCHESTER UNITED'S SUSPENSION LIST

United have no players who are serving a suspension for this game.
