Neven Subotic announces Borussia Dortmund departure

Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic is to leave the Westfalenstadion this summer after seeing his playing time restricted in recent times.

Neven Subotic has opened the door for a move to the Premier League after revealing that he intends to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer.

The 27-year-old, who helped BVB to back-to-back Bundesliga titles in 2011 and 2012, has grown frustrated by his lack of playing time under Thomas Tuchel at the Westfalenstadion.

Subotic was heavily linked with a switch to Liverpool, now under the management of former boss Jurgen Klopp, in the January transfer window, while Sunderland have also been tipped with making a move.

"Dear friends, during the last year I realised that my love for the game of football in an active role is too big to just be able to see it from outside," he wrote on his official Facebook page. "Football is an important part of my life. I love it and I can't be without it.

"I am in the best age for a football player and I want to use my time to improve myself and my team every day. And I want to have the feeling I am needed and I can give everything for my club.

"That is what I am thinking about. I do not want to earn my money on the bench, but to be a active part of the history like I was until last year. I hope you can understand that. Borussia Dortmund is the club of my heart and it will always be. Yours, Neven."

Dortmund have already lost the services of defender Mats Hummels this summer, while Ilkay Gundogan has also departed to Manchester City and Henrikh Mkhitaryan is expected to soon follow his ex-teammate by joining Manchester United.
