England interim boss Gareth Southgate backs Jamie Vardy to end his goal drought after failing to score in his last 10 appearances for club and country.

England interim manager Gareth Southgate has given his backing to Jamie Vardy to find his shooting boots again following a goalscoring drought.

The Leicester City striker has failed to find the back of the net in his last 10 appearances for his club and England, which is his worst run in almost two years.

Last weekend was the first time that Vardy had not started a Premier League game since March 2015 as he was named on the bench for the Foxes' 3-1 win over Crystal Palace.

Southgate, though, is not concerned about the striker's form.

"All goalscorers have periods where they are not scoring," Sky Sports News quotes Southgate as saying. "History and records over the years shows you what they are likely to fall back into and his scoring record is phenomenal. I have played with Alan Shearer when he went through the same - and Andy Cole.

"Over a long period of time if they have a record of one in two or one in three they will come back to that. You can take a small sample of games for any player but that's all it is.

"You have to look longer term, especially with goalscorers. He has proven himself at every level."

The 29-year-old has netted just three goals this season so far.
