Craig Shakespeare prepared to play "focused" Riyad Mahrez against Arsenal

Craig Shakespeare says that rumoured Roma and Inter Milan target Riyad Mahrez is in line to feature against Arsenal, as he 'remains committed' to Leicester City.

Craig Shakespeare has revealed that Riyad Mahrez is in his thinking for Friday night's Premier League opener against Arsenal, despite the ongoing transfer speculation regarding the winger.

Mahrez announced at the end of last season that he wants to move on during the summer transfer window, citing a desire to gain a "new experience" elsewhere.

Roma have already had numerous bids for the Algeria international turned down, while Inter Milan have also reportedly joined the race, but City are standing firm on their £50m valuation.

For as long as Mahrez remains a Leicester player, Shakespeare has no concerns over the 26-year-old's attitude.

"I have to say he's been very focused, when I say driven - he hasn't given me one problem of pulling him to the side and saying, 'oi, pull your finger out'," he told reporters.

"We know he's come out and said that he wants to leave. Until we get a bid that is accepted that is reasonable for Leicester then he stays. As long as he stays focused, then he will be considered for selection."

Shakespeare also played down talk of midfielder Danny Drinkwater departing for Chelsea as Leicester are 'not a selling club'.
