Jordan Ernest Burroughs has earned the USA their first wrestling medal of the 2012 Games by taking gold in the 74kg freestyle category.
Burroughs defeated Sadegh Saeed Goudarzi of Iran in two rounds to clinch the top prize.
The American edged the opening round 1-0 before winning the second by the same score with just 11 seconds left on the clock.
Soslan Tigiev of Uzbekistan and Russia's Denis Tsargush were awarded the bronze medal.
