Russian Federation's Aniuar Geduev: 'I was fortunate to win gold medal'

Russian Federation wrestler Aniuar Geduev concedes that he was "lucky" to beat Turkey's Soner Demirtas to win the gold medal in the men's 74kg freestyle at the European Games.

Russian Federation wrestler Aniuar Geduev has admitted that fortune played a part in his gold medal triumph in the men's 74kg freestyle at the European Games.

The 28-year-old defeated Turkey's Soner Demirtas in the final at the Heydar Aliyev Arena, winning the bout 4-0, although Geduev has said that the match could have gone either way.

He told reporters: "I am very happy. This is one more medal in my collection. Thanks to the coaches that let me show myself and chose me to participate in this tournament.

"I had a very experienced and titled rival in the final. I was more lucky to win."

Russia have won 16 gold medals at the Games.
