Two-time world champion wins gold for Russia

Russian Federation's Viktor Lebedev won gold after beating Germany's Marcel Ewald in the men's 57kg freestyle wrestling final at the European Games this afternoon.

Two-time world champion Viktor Lebedev proved too strong for Ewald at the Heydar Aliyev Arena, winning the bout 3-0 on points.

Lebedev reached the final after a semi-final victory over Yashar Aliyev, while Ewald beat Islam Islamaj after the original semi-finalists were disqualified for "brutality during the match".

Both losing semi-finalists failed to win bronze, as Alexandru Chirtoaca won Moldova's second medal in Baku after defeating Islamaj 4-0, while Turkey's Sezar Akgul beat Aliyev 5-0.

Russia's gold is their 15th overall, leaving them comfortable at the top of the medals table.
