Gold for Azerbaijan wrestler Mariya Stadnyk at European Games

Azerbaijan wrestler Mariya Stadnyk has won gold in the women's 48kg freestyle wrestling after defeating Bulgaria's Elitsa Yankova in the final.

Stadnyk won the match 4-1, after comfortably dispatching Poland's Iwona Matkowska in the semi-final, while Yankova had beaten Russian Federation's Valentina Islamova Brik en route to the final.

Consequently, both Matkowska and Islamova Brik held off repechage challengers to claim bronze medals.

The gold for Azerbaijan leaves them second in the medals table, narrowly trailing table-toppers Russia.
