Sanjita Khumukcham, Mirabai Chanu bag weightlifting gold and silver for India

Sanjita Khumukcham and Mirabai Chanu claim Commonwealth gold and silver for India in the women's under-48kg weightlifting final.

India's Sanjita Khumukcham and Mirabai Chanu have grabbed India's first medals of the Commonwealth Games with gold and silver in the women's under-48kg weightlifting.

Khumukcham claimed victory with a total lift of 173kg (77+96), while Mirabai took silver with a cumulative effort of 170kg (75+95) in the absence of other strong competitors.

Nigerai's Nkechi Opara was a distant third with 162kg (70+92).

Sanjita's total of 173kg just missed Augustina Nkem Nwaokolo's Games record of 175kg effort.
