GB's Dave Ellis, Luke Pollard defend PTVI title at World Triathlon Championships

Great Britain's Dave Ellis and guide Luke Pollard successfully defend their men's PTVI title at the World Triathlon Championships in Abu Dhabi.

Great Britain's Dave Ellis and guide Luke Pollard have successfully defended their men's PTVI title at the World Triathlon Championships in Abu Dhabi.

The Commonwealth Games champions crossed the line with 59:13 on the clock, beating French runners-up Thibaut Rigaudeau and Cyril Viennot by one minute and four seconds.

Ellis and Pollard have now won three world titles in the PTVI event, while fellow Briton Oscar Kelly ended up in seventh place with a time of 01:02:21.

"It's brilliant to be world champion again/ It gets more difficult every time because everyone is gunning for you. You get a bit nervous about it, so to defend the title is awesome," Ellis told BBC Sport after the race.

Ellis and Pollard were not the only ones to medal for GB on Thursday, as Claire Cashmore took the silver in the women's PTS5, one minute and 22 seconds behind winner Grace Norman of the USA.

Cashmore posted the quickest swim time of 11:29 - five seconds better off than Norman - but the 2016 Paralympic champion stormed back in the 20km bike ride and 5km run to secure victory.

There was also a third-placed finish for Alison Peasgood and guide Brooke Gillies in the women's PTVI race, ending with a time of 01:10:59.

Olympic silver medallist Georgia Taylor-Brown will aim to win her second world title when the elite women's race takes place on Friday, before fellow Tokyo 2020 runner-up Alex Yee competes for gold in the men's event on Saturday.
