Emmerson: 'Brownlee raced perfectly'

Former triathlete Annie Emmerson has admitted that Alistair Brownlee ran the perfect race to take gold in the triathlon earlier in the day.

Emmerson also said that England would be favourites for the mixed triathlon relay, considering they had taken gold in both the men's and women's events.

"Alistair executed the perfect race, he put himself on the line just that little bit more, and he seems to be able to dig that bit deeper," she told BBC Sport.

"I don't want to jinx it but I think Team England will be so hard to beat in the mixed triathlon team relay, which is making its Games debut here on Saturday."

Brownlee won ahead of his brother Jonathan, who claimed silver.
