Brownlee hails "fantastic" performance

Team England triathlete Alistair Brownlee has spoken of his "fantastic" performance in today's Commonwealth Games mixed team triathlon relay triumph.

The quartet of Vicky Holland, Jodie Stimpson, Jonathan Brownlee and his older brother completed the 400m swim, 6km cycle, and 1.6km run course in a total time of one hour, 13 minutes and 24 seconds to secure gold.

The 26-year-old told reporters: "[The race] was fantastic. I knew I could run well and I didn't want to have another sprint like a few weeks ago so I was determined to try and win it on the bike.

"I love the relay as it's actually really fun and you can see people's weaknesses and strengths more than in a normal triathlon at times."

South Africa took silver, 49 seconds back in the competition, with Australia finishing third.
