Sam Walker: 'Third time lucky for Team England in 2018'

Sam Walker targets a gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games to make it "third time lucky" for England's men's table tennis team.

England's Sam Walker has declared that winning a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in 2018 is his top target.

The 19-year-old, who is making his Games debut in Glasgow, was part of the Team England men's team that lost in the final against Singapore yesterday - a repeat of the final in Delhi 2010.

Despite this setback, Walker remains confident that he can pick up gold in Australia in four years' time.

"I said beforehand we'd be disappointed if we didn't win gold and that is still the case although now we've got the silver, it feels really good," he told reporters.

"They had a completely different team to four years ago, including two players formerly from China, which made a big difference.

"I thought we played very well and had our chances but it just wasn't to be. But it now gives us every incentive to go and making third time lucky in 2018."

Singapore won the final 3-1 at the Scotstoun Table Tennis Centre.
