Wales's Georgia Davies: 'We knew we'd reach six-medal target, we click as a team'

Georgia Davies tells Sports Mole that Wales have the "strongest" swimming team that they have ever had after reaching their six-medal Commonwealth target.

Welsh swimmer Georgia Davies has described their Commonwealth Games swimming team as one of the "strongest" that has ever been formed after they reached their six-medal target.

The Sport Wales figure was deemed ambitious, but Davies clinched the team's sixth medal in the pool by winning gold in the 50m backstroke in Glasgow this evening.

Prior to that, Jazz Carlin won her second medal of the Games by clinching silver in the 400m freestyle final.

"We had a slightly bigger team than normal and I think that it's probably one of the strongest teams that we've ever had," Davies told Sports Mole. "There's a mixture of some really young guys and some more experienced, and I think it's just clicked.

"We've all gelled really well and I think you've got to be confident because if you don't believe in yourself then no-one else does. I think we knew we could do it."

Along with tonight's gold, Davies won silver in the 100m backstroke on Saturday.
