Wales star Jazz Carlin: 'My tactics worked in 800m freestyle victory'

Carlin: 'My tactics worked'

Team Wales swimmer Jazz Carlin believes that her tactics won her the gold medal in tonight's 800m freestyle final at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The 23-year-old stormed down the final 50m to clinch gold in 8:18.11.

"It was always going to be a really tough race," Carlin told reporters. "Obviously there was a lot of strong girls in that pool, so I had to make sure that I tactically did it well.

"Being an 800m there's 16 laps to put in some tactics so I just had to make sure I timed it right. I always knew I had a strong back end, so I used my strengths to the best of my ability."

Wales are two medals shy of their target of six, with one day remaining in the pool.
