Rebecca Soni breaks 200m breaststroke world record

Rebecca Soni has smashed the world record in the women's 200m breaststroke at London 2012.

The American stormed through her semi-final and left her competitors seconds behind, finishing in 2:20.00.

Satomi Suzuki was more than two seconds behind Soni, but goes through to the last eight as the third-fastest qualifier.

Soni's biggest rival in the final is likely to be Rikke Pedersen of Denmark, who won her heat with a time of 2:22.23.

The women's 200m breaststroke final takes place tomorrow evening.
